Recommendation and Review

Rockingham County intends to submit an application to compete for federal and state transportation dollars through the Smart Scale grant program to increase the widths of the existing travel lanes and add shoulders along Route 720 (Smithland Road) between U.S. 11 (North Valley Pike) and Route 718 (Old Furnace Road, to improve safety, operations, and bicycle movement. The project’s eastern terminus is approximately 250’ inside the City boundary. The application requires a resolution of support from City Council because the project enters the City limits.
