Recommendation and Review

This is the 18th year of the Race to Beat Breast Cancer 5K, organized by Harrisonburg Parks and Recreation. The race begins and ends at Westover Park, and the course runs through the Sunset Heights neighborhood. It is expected to draw 900-1,000 participants. The race requires a partial street closure of S. Dogwood from 9:30-10am.

This event application was reviewed and approved by the Special Events committee on 1/9/20.

The total cost of the event is estimated between $660-1,040.

Key Issues:

-HPW Support (2 staff; street closures, message boards)

-HPD Support (6 officers/CSAs + 1 supervisor)

-HDPT Support (suspension of Westover loop until noon)

-Covered under City insurance

-Food will not be served or sold
