Recommendation and Review

02/12/19:  At the January 8, 2019 City Council meeting, City Council approved several amendments to the City Code to address concerns related to the parking of scooters. An additional amendment to enable a permitting system for commercial scooter rentals was tabled to allow staff additional time to create a memorandum of understanding to govern their operations. This will be the second reading of the amendments  Title 6 Chapter 1 - Streets and Sidewalks Article A - General Provisions Section 6-1-18 - storing, etc., goods on sidewalk or in gutter and Title 13 Chapter 1 Traffic and Parking Regulations Article A - General Provisions Sections 13-1-1, 13-1-53, 13-2-7, 13-2-9 and 13-2-10 of the code of ordinances City of Harrisonburg, Virginia and a request that council adopt a permit process for Share Mobility Devices.

01/08/19:  Since the launch of scooter rentals in Harrisonburg, city staff have received a significant number of comments from the public. While initial comments were largely positive, as the total fleet size in the city expanded, staff began to receive an increasing number of complaints, particularly regarding parking.
