This item was requested by Council members at the September 27, 2016, City Council meeting following presentations from various citizens under “Public Comment” and limited Council discussion under “Other Matters”.
On October 9, 2012, City Council, at the request of local business and industry, adopted a resolution “calling for the protection of intellectual property to be a key component of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement”. This resolution did not indicate support of or opposition to the TPP. It was adopted solely in support of local business and industry.
The comments presented at the September 27, 2016, meeting focused more on whether or not Council should adopt a new resolution expressing opposition to the TPP, rather than on the specifics of the October 9, 2012, resolution. A copy of a proposed resolution to consider was provided by Councilman Degner and is attached.
