Recommendation and Review

In May 2011, Harrisonburg was recognized as a Bronze Level Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists. This year, our Bronze Level designation expires and a new application is due on August 11, 2015.

The application collects data on activities within five broad areas: Engineering, Education, Encouragement, Enforcement and Evaluation. Award levels, starting with the highest, are Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze.

Harrisonburg’s application was completed by city staff from Public Works, Police, Transit, and others, and with assistance from the Transportation Safety & Advisory Commission’s Bicycle & Pedestrian Subcommittee, Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition members, Sentara RMH safe routes to school coordinators and other community members.
