Recommendation and Review

On May 14, 2002, City Council adopted a resolution supporting the goal of deterring juvenile crime thru the Virginia Juvenile Community Crime Control Act (the Act) through the establishment of community-based systems of sanctions, residential and non-residential programs and services, based on the offenses committed and treatment needed.  Council’s resolution included its authorization for the City to participate in the Act and the utilization of funds from the Act.

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice has requested that City Council adopt a new resolution which will (1) confirm that the City will participate in the Act and accept funds in accordance therewith until it notifies the Department that it no longer wishes to participate, (2) acknowledge that the City will combine with Rockingham County to form one combined plan under the Act, with the County acting as fiscal agent, and (3) authorize the City Manager to execute a local combined plan on behalf of the City.  The resolution placed on the agenda fulfills this requirement.
