Title

Consider authorizing Interim City Manager Ande Banks to execute a Property Transfer Agreement between the City of Harrisonburg and the William J. Long Trust, in association with the new Rocktown High School Project.

Presented By:  Chris Brown, City Attorney

Recommendation and Review

The new Rocktown High School project requires the improvement of Boxwood Drive at its intersection with South Main Street.  In order to facilitate these improvements Public Works was required to negotiate with the William J. Long Trust for certain easements.  During the negotiations with the Trust, they requested that in addition to compensation, that a portion of the neighboring parcel, which is owned by the City, be granted to them.  Public Works in consultation with the City Manager’s office feel that this transfer of property, in combination with the agreed upon compensation, is appropriate and recommended approval of this request.

The attached Property Transfer Agreement will guarantee that upon the completion of all required construction on both the Rocktown High School and Boxwood Drive intersection work the City will transfer the requested property to the William J. Long Trust as outlined.
