Presentation and consider approval of the Traffic Cabinet Art Wrap Project

Recommendation and Review
On February 27, 2024, City Council authorized Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance (HDR), the Arts Council, and City staff to solicit artists for this project. Fifteen submissions were received and reviewed by the selection committee. The selection committee ranked each submitted art proposal and selected the top ten (10) for placement at the identified traffic signal cabinets. Following artwork selection, City staff determined which artwork would be placed at each traffic signal cabinet location.
Next steps for the project, following City Council approval is to notify each artist and finalize each contract. Final artwork will be submitted to the City by July 1st and will then be prepared for installation on the traffic cabinets. It is currently estimated that artwork will be installed during the month of August.
