Title

Consider amending and re-enacting Section 7-2-9 - Private Water Lines, to the Code of Ordinances, City of Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Recommendation and Review

The proposed amendments to Section 7-2-9 clarifies that all waterlines deemed essential to the public distribution system shall be publicly owned and maintained, while waterlines providing service to a single customer fire suppression system (including sprinklers and standpipes) are privately owned and are the responsibility of the customer to maintain. The exception is the water service line to the meter, which is provided by the City.

On May 9, 2023 Council reviewed the amendments, some additional edits have been made, and are attached, for Council’s approval.  This will be considered the second reading.
