Recommendation and Review

The City of Harrisonburg and the Commonwealth of Virginia are both recipients of settlement funds paid by prescription opioid manufacturers and companies in the prescription opioid distribution network. As part of the settlements the City of Harrisonburg will receive annual direct disbursements from Fiscal Year 2022 through Fiscal Year 2039. The Commonwealth of Virginia established the Virginia Opioid Abatement Authority (OAA) to abate and remediate the opioid epidemic in the Commonwealth through financial support in the form of grants, donations, or other assistance. Financial assistance offered through the OAA consists of settlement funds paid to Virginia. The City of Harrisonburg may apply for grants from the OAA.

The presentation will provide an overview of the settlement funds, present a recommended use of the City’s direct funds, and present recommended OAA grant applications.
